Mr. Don Huff is President and founder of ECO Strategy (ECO), a strategic communications firm with a focus on energy and the environment. Since 1997, ECO has built a reputation as the premier supplier of strategic counsel, program design, marketing and related communication services for ENGOs, First Nations, government, professional trade associations and the private sector in Canada and the United States. Mr. Huff has a combined B.Sc in geography and environmental science from Trent University and completed graduate work at the University of Waterloo related to resource development and management issues. As well, Mr. Huff has a long association with Oraclepoll Research, a public opinion firm based in Sudbury. Mr. Huff works constantly and closely with Oraclepoll’s President Paul Seccaspina on developing question and analyzing data on public opinion issues across Canada. Noteworthy assignments Mr. Huff has undertaken include lengthy retainers providing strategic counsel to the Ontario Power Authority (now IESO) related to energy conservation (often in a northern Ontario and First Nation context); the Ontario Chief Energy Conservation Officer and the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario. Mr. Huff was also seconded to the Ontario Minister of Energy's office to ensure the orderly rollout (coordinating both public and legislative activities) of the Green Energy and Economy Act. Before ECO Strategy, Mr. Huff delivered a national public consultation program for Parks Canada and coordinated client participation in the largest provincial environmental assessment hearing ever completed in Ontario. During a five-year stint at Queen’s Park, working for the Ontario Liberal Caucus, Mr. Huff was responsible for research and Question Period strategy for the following ministries: Natural Resources, Northern Development and Mines, and Environment. Mr. Huff has maintained strong connections with senior staff and politicians at Queen’s Park. Don has served on the Board of many organizations. These positions include serving as President of the Sierra Club of Eastern Canada and his current appointment to the Ontario Provincial Parks Board. To every assignment, Mr. Huff brings a wealth of knowledge and experience related to media relations, community relations, the economy, existing dynamic tensions, First Nation relations, industrial history and provincial/regional/local politics of Northern Ontario. |
